Unlike previous PHP releases, 8.0 broke backwards compatibility pretty hard. Some old PHP projects that I have to support are completely unusable on 8.0. This gives me a few more years to port them, so I am all for it.

The same happened with Python 3 and it took a decade to catch up. To be fairness, it was mostly about Unicode support and applications doing stupid stuff with strings.
