There is no such thing as a free lunch.
It is absolutely terrible that California's economy is controlled and strangled to the point where parents don't make enough to feed their own kids.
"Free" lunch for kids only papers over this more fundamental problem.
- wheresmycraisin 5y agoSo if your house caught on fire, would you refuse to let firefighters from putting out the fire? Would you stand around saying "There is no such thing as free emergency response. It is absolutely terrible this community is controlled and strangled to the point where home owners don't make enough to pay for private firefighters or set up a self-contained biodome immune from the effects of climate change. 'Free' firefighting only papers over these fundamental problems".
- handmodel 5y agoThis is non-sensical. The price of a free lunch in school is such a tiny fraction of what any state pays for in its education budget. If you are against public education I'd find that consistent but it seems bizarre to draw the line here. This seems like the type of thing that would have happened sooner if education policy ignored the desires of teachers unions/administers wanting higher salaries. One would have to think that for all the money spent on teachers/extracurriculars/busses/etc. we can get a pretty good bang for our buck in terms of test scores just by feeding children without administrative hassle.
