- notathrowaway5 5y ago@dang Is there a reason why all the comments pointing out the FACT that the Taliban also partakes in pedophilia are getting [flagged]? This is extremely suspicious. The comment I'm replying to is going to be flagged within minutes, as is this one.
- dang 5y agoMaybe because you're posting them all, with several different accounts, and abusively deleting your comments and reposting them? Could you please stop creating accounts to break HN's guidelines with? We're trying for a different sort of site here.
- notathrowaway6 5y agoI was deleting and reposting because they were getting insta-flagged. The comments weren't breaking site guidelines and we're relevant to the discussion. This is reddit level narrative shaping... I had no clue that kind of abusive flagging would make it's way to HN. I will make a permanent account at your request. Thank you.
- dang 5y agoThe comments were certainly breaking the site guidelines! Would you mind reviewing them? https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html We're trying to avoid flamewar here, and generally the use of the site for political and ideological battle, because it destroys the spirit of curiosity the forum is supposed to exist for.
- notathrowaway6 5y agoI don't understand how correcting a factually incorrect statement and providing sources is considered against the guidelines. This response was immediately flagged as an example, and it does not break guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28171744 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28171744 If the rule is not to reply so as to not start a flamewar, what you're allowing is whomever can lie and narrative shape the fastest wins as there's no room to reply. That's not a good precedent to set. I agree some of my later posts did not confirm to the guidelines. Frustrated posting and I can no longer delete them.
- dang 5y ago"Factually correct/incorrect" is a red herring—there are infinitely many facts. They don't select themselves; humans do that, and humans have agendas. There are also infinitely many ways to present the same facts. Some break the site guidelines and some don't. Please choose ways that don't. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=by%3Adang%20infinitely%20many%20facts&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...
- notathrowaway6 5y agoThat's like saying the there are infinite real numbers so the answers to equations are meaningless. It is an objective truth that the Taliban partakes in the sexual abuse of children. Saying that the Taliban does not partake in the sexual abuse of children is making an objectively false statement an abhorrent one that stands to be correctly. I appreciate the back and forth, but this entire experience has scared me. I'm not sure what to make of future discourse here.
- dang 5y agoIt's not in the least like saying that. It's saying that these are not the same thing: 1. a comment includes facts; 2. a comment is within the site guidelines. #2 is the important thing. Bringing up #1 in response to being told that you've broken the site guidelines is a red herring. It's also the most beloved tactic of trolls, hands-down. Following the HN guidelines is not hard if you choose to. Please stop using HN primarily for ideological and political battle. We don't care what flavor you favor; we care about having an internet forum that doesn't burn itself to a crisp. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=by%3Adang%20scorched%20earth&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...
- nate_meurer 5y agoNo, you're right, my response wasn't actually very relevant to your point. The Taliban are in fact not at all opposed to pedophilia as long as it's their preferred kind. The Taliban profess to be opposed to the institutionalized child sex abuse we know as Bacha Bazi, and that appeared to be a significant factor in their early rise to power. But you're right, there is no "non-pedophile side" in any meaningful moral sense.
- spaced-out 5y agoNonetheless, thanks for posting that 7 year old article. I've followed Afghanistan news on and off and I was not aware of how widespread that practice is. It's almost certainly a factor in the Taliban's resurgence.
- truetraveller 5y agoHow in the world do you say "forced", truly hearsay. I'm a Muslim, I have a bunch of Afghani/Arab friends, and things aren't "forced", except in a few cases. As far as age: did you know the legal age of marriage was 13 in the United States (NH), up until 2019. Thirteen.
