but more than half turn out to not really be remote
- MattGaiser 5y agoI’m seeing is a lot for software development job postings in Canada. It is “remote” but you are required to live in the city.
- cmrdporcupine 5y agoYes a lot of jobs in Canada that are "remote for now"; sometimes made explicit, other times implicit. Also an uptick in American companies attempting to hire remote from Canada, which is potentially good, except that I doubt many of them actually have the infrastructure (payroll, benefits, etc.) for doing the hire, so it's either contract, or it never actually happens.
- DoctorDabadedoo 5y agoFor some international contractors this can be a nice pay bump, but I wonder if it's just hay fire and in a few months time companies realize that keeping a remote team functional requires work and they decide to just roll back. Time will tell.
- MattGaiser 5y agoMy company has a intriguing combo of mandatory office with most teams being distributed. So you are guaranteed a remote work environment from an open office. I really don’t think that will work long term, so can see a lot of restructuring.
- DoctorDabadedoo 5y agoI've seen a lot of bait and switch from recruiters on this recently. Job listing: Remote possible First/Second interview: We would actually prefer this position to be on site.
- mmcdermott 5y agoThat's shady, but look on the bright side: the bait is a tell that they know what people want. Usually it's just a matter of time at that point.
- baylessj 5y agoI had the same experience interviewing this last month. A lot of companies that are remote during COVID that will pretend to be fully remote until an interview or two into the process.
