Never heard of this author at all, and I was a big fan of mid century American writing in my teens, but not someone I was aware of in the UK. Just reserved a few of his books in my local library, they sound great!
- ycombinete 5y agoI’ve been reading his journals for years. They are incredible. I’ve never read a single story of his, but keep coming back to the journals.
- ljf 5y agoI love Hunter S Thompson'a letters which often take the form of a journal. Brilliant read.

Only Vonnegut and Heller (for Catch-22) in that generation really stuck with me after reading though.
- stewbrew 5y agoHe is famous for his short stories. Most authors that are known all over the world are known for their novels that are easier to sell.
- ljf 5y agoI guess I fell more into scifi for my short stories. I find I read so little these days, looking forward to trying his books.
