Bill Gates Pledges $1.5B for Infrastructure Bill’s New Climate Projects
- rektide 5y agohave not investigated but my expectation is that this heavily blurs the line between philanthropy and investment. I don't mind some rewards & financial success, but billyg's stance during covid on what should remain proprietary & what the world ought try to do for itself was [filtered]. generally I feel like most of his massive wealth pledges are used as a for-profit investment, obscured behind the guise of headlines describing the magnitude of his stake in on those money-making attempts, or bowing before how far advanced these progresses might be. billyg pays for his news coverage then gets to spin a story projecting what he does as philanthropy, but upon examination it feels like there are ongoingly missing words in the coverage, lack of criticality, where it might be found that these "pledges" are often attempts to own & control critical assets the world direly could want to be able to partake in, and whose existence is kept at a exclusionary, profiteering affordability. I keep trying to imagine a Volvo that fought for every cent and dime for it's invention of the seatbelt: why is this world so short, so pressured to do the right thing but to control & monopolize access? the best counterstories I'd love to hear for my bloody liberal views are: how was Volvo not as "give it all away" as I fancy here? how was everyone else as nuanced & not as pure & noble as it seems like today & today's men are? whereforth is fair purpose for this world & those men on it?
- yuppie_scum 5y agoBud when you make your 1.5B you can come here and post about what you do with it and we will let you know if you are pure and virtuous.
- rektide 5y agoI won't try to tell you what to think though, "bud"
