Your Daily Coffee Habit Is About to Get More Expensive
- underseacables 5y agotl;dr: commodity price of coffee is going up due to environmental infrastructure problems of producing countries.
- ewagsjr 5y agoI will never pay for news sites knowing I can just look at the comments for heroes like you haha.
- laurencerowe 5y agoSo how much does that increase work out per cup? About 3¢. The $4.39 12oz latte from the article requires 17g of ground coffee per double shot of espresso. Coffee loses 17% of its weight when roasted, so one pound of coffee (454g) after roasting (377g) makes 22 double shots of espresso. So their cost of coffee has gone up less than 3¢ per cup, from $0.086 at $1.90 per pound to $0.113 at $2.49 per pound.
- doubled112 5y agoThat won't stop Starbucks from using it as an excuse to jack the prices up 25¢ a cup. Never waste a good crisis. Meanwhile, I'll keep brewing it at home.
- AdmiralAsshat 5y agoCool. I'll pay it. But then, the price of coffee could probably double, and I would still pay it.
- tadasv 5y agoI get 4-pack espresso from sams for $10 that lasts me a month. I stopped getting "lattes" and other fancy stuff long time ago.
- didntknowya 5y agokind of like they raise the price of coffee by 50c a cup because "prices for raw materials have increased"- when it's the sugar going up 20c a kilo
