The chicken pox has a similar survival rate, but you got vaccinated for that didn't you?
- guilhas 5y agoThe others are also experimental. The more traditional is Novavax. I'll be waiting for that one In the UK chicken pox vaccine is not included in national vaccine schedule. So no
- 7952 5y agoFalse dichotomy. You are choosing between no vaccine, vaccine a, or vaccine b. When really the choice is between Corona virus and whatever vaccine is available. And Corona virus has bad proven effects. Life limiting effects that can persist as chronic illness. Scientists may not know 100% that the vaccine is safer than covid, but they can be sure enough. Why take the greater risk of covid when there is a lesser risk? A jab made by scientists to save lives is more trustworthy than a virus cooked up in the lungs of a pangolin and coughed around the world.
- rbanffy 5y agoI’m very surprised so many in the HN community are unable to see these cognitive traps. The vaccines were tested. They may have a small chance of killing you or creating other ill effects down the run, but they don’t kill 3% of the vaccinated like SARS-CoV2 does with the infected. And that says nothing about long COVID and other long term damage the virus causes. And let’s not get into the new, deadlier variations. So, unless the person is sure they are safe from contagion, that they are adequately isolated and will not contract the virus, any vaccine is better than no vaccine.
- AndrewBissell 5y agoVery funny to see a post lamenting people falling for "cognitive traps" and then repeating falsehoods like a 3% infection fatality rate (a massive overstatement of the real number which is itself highly stratified by age and comorbidity cohorts) or that the new variants are more deadly.
- rbanffy 5y agoHow do you get the “real” number? If it’s a conspiracy, it’s one that spans dozens of governments, because the numbers are close to that pretty much everywhere. To say nothing about all those governments being really good at keeping secrets. But that’s beside the point. How was it determined that the vaccines, mRNA, viral fragments, or inactive virus, have higher fatalities than the disease itself?
- SamPatt 5y agoNew variants appear to be more contagious, but not deadlier. For health people my age, there is very nearly 0% chance of death. Combining my chance with that of unhealthy people, especially elderly, isn't compelling.
- guilhas 5y agoThere is no choice everyone will get corona virus even the vaccinated. But anyway I would prefer corona virus to the vaccine. Actually already had it recently. Like the flu, a bit more tiering and with an annoying light cough. So I'm sure enough I don't need the vaccine. Why take the risk? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bOHYZhL0WQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bOHYZhL0WQ
- nameless912 5y agoOK, then MMR. Pick a vaccine you do get.
