The Platform Engineer
- pm90 5y agoIs it common to hire so many people for essentially internal tooling? I’m trying to understand how one could justify hiring eg a technical writer dedicated for this team.
- thraxil 5y agoI think it would depend a lot on the size of the company. In the article, they mention "Now repeat this for 50+ teams across the organization". At the company I work for, we only have about a dozen developers total. If they have more than 50 full teams, they're obviously operating on a completely different scale than we are.
- achar_varun 5y agoYes. Our engineering team is pretty large. We do have a technical writers team. But they write our public API documentation. Internal tooling docs are written by the engineers themselves.
- achar_varun 5y agoAs we scale our systems and people scale fast, the problems become amplified. We need specific teams solving those problems. Dev Productivity becomes a problem, microservices cause reliability issues, managing scale requires other systems etc. It all adds up.
