I consider myself lucky. I'm 63 and got my EE degree in 1980. Mostly a combination of hardware & software for the first twenty years, then gradually moved into only software. I first worked for my current boss/CEO over thirty years ago, at his most recent company for the past thirteen years, and until a few months ago I was still the new guy amongst the developers. I have a lot of accumulated knowledge in our line of business, one that's not just another e-business or social media platform. I guess my advice is find unique skills in a niche business that can't be easily picked up by a twenty-something, unless of course that business is making buggy whips.
