Is that really the case, though? Python, C, Rust, Ruby, Go, R, Swift, Perl. One is type of snake, the other is a type stone, and then there is a freaking letter. It seems like the less googlable the name is, the popular programming language becomes. Or, at least, that it doesn't matter that much. I swear I considered that when naming the language Kind. That could have been a terrible move though.
- raesene9 5y agoFinding go things is a pain (for me) because go is a very general word, I generally use golang to avoid that. Python is easy 'cause the other meaning is a real noun, so disambiguation is easy. Kind is a general word, another tech project, and also a programming term. just an opinion ofc :)
- haskellandchill 5y agoKindlang, problem solved
- LangMakers 5y agoSpeaking of names, I love yours
- cole-k 5y agoDisclaimer: I am not an SEO expert I think you should be fine if you call it "kindlang" or "kind lang" everywhere. You have to understand that the languages Python, C, and even Ruby have been around for a long time, and I would wager SEO mattered much less when they were being created. This is obviously true for C, and arguably true for the others. To boot, many of them are often searched for with "(programming) lang(uage)" as an associated query. Similar arguments follow for the rest (Go/Swfit/Rust are supported by big companies, Perl is a unique string, etc.). What is unfortunate for your language is that Kinds are something associated with PLs theory AND it also seems to be that many people are interested in searching for "what kinds of programming languages are there?" ("kind" in the sense of "type of language"). If I were you, I wouldn't let it get to me – I think this project is cool regardless of name. But if popularity matters to you, maybe try and emphasize "kindlang".
- mburns 5y agoI generally agree, but Perl != Pearl
- zem 5y agoit's not that the name means other things, it's that it's a very generic word that is used in lots of other contexts, several of which are programming and even language related. I had the same issues searching for "Nice" and "Clean" back in the day.
