Pickup from a map pin, dropoff to a map pin, driver follows traffic-aware navigation the whole way (like GMaps or Waze), payment automatically handled.
Cost was never why I preferred Uber/Lyft.

"I don't know the name of it, but I'm in the big white building opposite the Night Market." driver follows traffic-aware navigation the whole way You haven't ridden in a taxi lately. I venture to say that a GPS of some description is standard in all taxis, including things like GMaps and Waze. payment automatically handled. Restriction to one form of payment. A Taxi can take cash, card, voucher, or can wait while you borrow money that you haven't got from somebody else. I still don't see any 'Uber' advantage over a plain old taxi service.
