Prisons are increasingly banning physical mail and requiring digitization
- anthk 5y agoWhat if a relative wants to send a book/magazine to a prisoner?
- jasonhansel 5y agoA very large number of books/magazines are already banned in prisons due to censorship, so...that's already kind of tricky.
- aurizon 5y agoThis is another racket. A politically connected company will be awarded the scan and print feature, and e-mails will be printed, and probably charged at $1 a page for low res B&W crap. The prisoners will then have to pay or the send will be tasked to pre-pay when they send. I do not know is this is the way they do t, but I feel it will probably parallel the phone racket that is similar
- throwaway0a5e 5y agoMore pork more power for the politicians, politically appointed administrators and high level bureaucrats who you need to know to have a shot at the contract so of course this stuff never gets shot down unless it causes a public outcry and threatens the politicians.
- aurizon 5y agoYes, just another burden that falls on the back of the (usually) poor prisoners, under the guise of saving $$ on the prison systems. It would be easier to review the bloated wages of politicians and prison employees.
