- ladberg 5y agoIn this case they are actually "consuming" more wind. A normal sail "consumes" wind by taking moving wind and reducing its speed to 0. This "consumes" wind by taking moving wind and sending it back the other direction, so it creates more thrust per unit wind.
- rusk 5y agoSounds to me like it improves efficiency rather than consumes more
- ladberg 5y agoYep, I thought about it a bit more and you're totally right.
- jayd16 5y agoSame could be said for a turbocharger but we just happen to set the fuel mixture dynamically.
- rusk 5y agoNo, turbo specifically draws more fuel. You’re using an elastic definition of efficieny that I’m not gona jive with as energy supply from wind is constant. EDIT it’s more like gearing.
- jayd16 5y agoSure you can. Why not? Can't you extract varying amounts of energy from wind resulting in varying wind speed in your wake?
- rusk 5y agoNot the same way as you do with turbo
