All companies can start off taking your security seriously, I think it is a “when” not an “if” for relaxing that security. Apple’s here to make money, nothing more nothing less. What do you make of the following thesis? Apple need only be “a little more” secure than Android. “We only share your info with the government, not the government and a thousand shadowy data brokers”. Better than the competition is all they need. The question of why this change is being made will be interesting if it is ever made public.
