Imagine if home builders, under pressure from law enforcement and government bodies, included built-in devices in your home that monitored and analyzed your behaviors and interactions, just to 'keep people safe'.
And you couldn't uninstall them, even though you own the home.
And you couldn't know when a human was reviewing 'suspicious behavior' telemetry, which included images, video and audio of you and your family.
And you couldn't control anything about when and where this happened, except by moving house.
And all of this was framed as a 'safety' problem, and if you complained about this, you were considered one of the 'screeching voices of the minority'.
- barbazoo 5y agoNot during construction but people sure do put devices in their homes that tick all those boxes and you know what, they mostly don't care.
- zionic 5y agoHow do we make them care? Or more politically worded, show them it is in their interest to care?
- rnjesus 5y agolobby, or run for their office. edit: er, i think i misunderstood your question.
- randyrand 5y agoWhat devices are you talking about? specifically this box "And you couldn't know when a human was reviewing 'suspicious behavior' telemetry, which included images, video and audio of you and your family." and this box: "And you couldn't uninstall them"
- brandon272 5y agoThey voluntarily install those cameras in their homes and it isn't for the express purpose of government surveillance.
- ramphastidae 5y agoJust like they voluntarily buy iPhones …
- brandon272 5y agoYes, but they don’t buy iPhones for their surveillance capability. In fact, many buy them because Apple tells them that they, as customers, will NOT be surveilled. Apple sells this idea so strongly that they say they treat privacy as a fundamental human right.
