Show HN: LifeBits – share memories, not posts
- patrianova 5y agoHi, this is an idea I have been working on the past couple of months (since the beginning of the pandemic). The whole premise of the app is for you to leave a LifeBit (video, text, image) in a geolocation for others to retrieve it. Think about it as a "Pokemon Go" of yourself. Bits can be locked and unlocked. When locked, the person you share the LifeBit with (you can share with everyone in the globe) can see its content only when at the same location (the app serve as your key). When unlocked, the content can be seen from anywhere. There are 2-3 ideas to further develop this but I'd love to hear your opinions about it before I implement them. 1) restrict the app to have only "locked bits", as such, it would be fundamentally different than what is out there. 2) build a "treasure hunt" type of itinerary where one bit leads to the other. These bits could be locked or unlocked 3) build a personal itinerary app where you can leave tips behind inside LifeBis for your friends or other people. E.g.: "My perfect day in Paris" It's an MVP and I'd love to hear your thoughts about it. Cheers, Rodrigo
- aconsult1 5y agoLooks like a novel way to share content to me. Usability can be improved but I feel you have nailed the UI/UX for a MVP. Features can be added but you need to launch quickly rather than cook it for too long without exposing to the real world. I love how you can create "stories" - a series of posts - pinning them to certain locations. It's an interesting way of creating a certain narrative for a road trip for example. Congrats and great work!
- patrianova 5y agoThanks! Indeed, that's the spirit, launching it as quick as possible to gather feedback. The idea of agglutinating bits into a narrative, itinerary type of thing is surely on the radar but I'd love to hear from the community (like you) if this is really a path worth exploring. I like the secret aspect of dropping something at a place that can only be retrieved at the same location. Enough of scrolling to endless timelines on our couches. Thanks for the feedback!
- aconsult1 5y agoI wish other social networks could offer different views on their feed. Imagine being able to navigate Facebook by location or maybe by your friends network graph. I liked when feeds used to be predictable and time based but I guess the money was too good to pass so they took over control of what you see and when. It's refreshing to see some apps trying to innovate on that front.
- patrianova 5y agoThat's precisely what we are trying to do. The simple idea of leaving our couches to go and discover the world around us is a plus. Instead of a social netowork, we prefer to think LifeBits is an app to discover the world and it has a social aspect to it so you can benefit from the knowledge of others while at a given place. Thanks for your perspective and comment.
- greatNespresso 5y agoMan, I had the same idea for a while, like bottles left in the sea for other life sailors to pick and seek. Congrats on the launch, it must feel satisfying.
- patrianova 5y agoThanks! Indeed, having something released at last is an amazing feeling. Regarding the bottles, that's exactly the spirit! Hope you enjoy the app. As mentioned above we are still figuring out how to further develop it. Any suggestions are welcome. thanks again, Rodrigo
