Everything I've read makes it seem like children being hospitalized by covid is around 1 in 100,000 with closer to 1 in 1,000,000 dying from it. Kids are at higher risk just going to a swimming pool. In a nation of 330M+ people, it's not hard to find examples of extreme outliers (just google "kids struck by lightning" for example).
