While that's a fairly honest assessment of my Anki use, I'd advise that the process of making your own decks, and/or adding in your own mnemonics is very powerful.
If you don't know the loci method, I strongly suggest you add that to your repertoire of memory techniques. Ditto with the peg system, which you can actually download / make an Anki deck for.
- tmaly 5y agoI am curious, why did you never open the app again? I am a little familiar with memory palaces, and I have used the peg system many years ago. Maybe Anki is not the exact tool I need. I am mainly looking for a way to organize knowledge. If I take a lot of notes, they rarely get re-read. I would like a system where I get at something when I need it.
- mandmandam 5y agoAh .. That sounds like you're looking for Zettelkasten, or maybe a tab-folding bullet app. Roam and Obsidian seem to be the favourite options for people who don't use their own Emacs style solution. This is a verrry popular topic on HN the last while; searching for the above keywords should get you some interesting previous discussions. Here are a couple conversations I have handy: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25802277 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25802277 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27649667 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27649667 ... And, I don't open Anki very often because it worked. I memorised and internalised enough of the things I wanted to remember. As soon as I need to use it again, I will.
