Why those people are not treated as employees and paid at least a minimum wage?
- sebzim4500 5y agoHow would that even work? Only Fans has no idea how much time these people are spending doing 'marketing' (spamming reddit)
- intricatedetail 5y agoLike any other employment. Can you be more precise?
- gambiting 5y agoNo, can you be more precise? Do you know how OnlyFans works? It’s like reading that majority of seller accounts on eBay make less than $145 a month and then replying that they should be treated like employees - employees of who? eBay? OnlyFans lets you sell your content online, just like you would on eBay or Etsy - if you want to make more money then…make more content? Or make content that people want to buy? I don’t even understand whose employees you think they should be in this scenario.
- intricatedetail 5y agoIsn't that the same as taking overtime as an employee? They are working for the benefit of OF. It's like saying a factory let's you assemble phones and if you want to make more money assemble more.
- morelikeborelax 5y agoOnlyfans is a service not a content provider or media company. What you are suggesting is akin to Shopify, Etsy or eBay paying a minimum wage to sellers.
- gambiting 5y agoNo? Of course it isn't. They allow you to sell your content and take a small cut for giving you access to the platform. Just like eBay takes 10% of every sale for you know....letting you list your stuff on their website. >>It's like saying a factory let's you assemble phones and if you want to make more money assemble more. I literally can't see how it's even remotely comparable. If you want to make more money on eBay, list more items on eBay. If you want to make more money on OnlyFans.....list more content on OnlyFans. Or move to a different platform, or make content that people actually want to buy.
- detaro 5y agoIf you really want to stick to that analogy, it's more like a makerspace that lets rent their facilities and webshop to make and sell your own phones, and takes a cut from your profits.
- sokoloff 5y agoShould YC be paying you minimum wage to post here? Or are you doing it independently. at your own discretion, using your own tools, choosing your own topics, and setting your own hours?
- kofejnik 5y agoBy who?
- ndkwj 5y agoTaking into account most of them don't even pay tax on that income...
- OoMDbL 5y agoShould youtube pay all of its content creators minimum wage?
- hellbannedguy 5y agoMaybe--especially if Google is making a net profit of the video? We have been giving away our work/crap away for years now, maybe it's time to demand a bit of money from the monopoly? I think they could afford to give back? (And yes--I know some people are paid Youtubers.)
- hexa22 5y agoI guess then google should fire all of the low performing youtubers (blocking them from the platform) and send out orders for what content each YouTuber will be making. Since they are employees of google, they should be making google approved content. I suspect most will like the old system.
- JustFinishedBSG 5y agoBecause they are not employees ?
- antasvara 5y agoThey're moat likely independent contractors and not subject to wage laws. This makes more sense for a platform that makes you money based directly on a consumer's desire to see your pictures.
- MrStonedOne 5y agoWhen porn companies treat models as employees, they pay them 300 dollars for a video that makes them 3 million dollars. If i post a clip of a speech explaining how to program on youtube, and link to my paypal where you can buy the full video, shipped via mega, who should pay me as an employee? i think we can both agree nobody. If somebody makes a website to make it easier such that you can do all 3 steps in one place, all of the sudden they should pay me as an employee?
- intricatedetail 5y agoThe problem is that employers are allowed to exploit workers like that. The wages should be reflecting the value workers create.
- hexa22 5y agoWhat about the value the employer creates by setting up a platform, initial investments which lose money to draw in users, and taking on all the risk and paying the workers anyway if a particular video flops. Only fans is also the alt path if you believe employers are not paying you your real value, now you can skip them and sell directly to the public. You might make more money or you might have nothing.
- EvilEy3 5y agoThere's no employer. When you post a message on Craigslist, do you also expect to be payed?
- MrStonedOne 5y agoI would like to know your answer to the question in the second paragraph, as well as your response to the final paragraph.
- morpheos137 5y agoWages have never directly reflected the value workers create. Rather they reflect the supply vs. demand market clearing price for labor. Arguably the "value" even the highest performing onlyfans people create is neglible.
- EvilEy3 5y agoIs that a sarcasm?
- post-it 5y agoIf I hire MasterCard to process payments for me, I don't become MasterCard's employee.
- bequanna 5y agoThe content creators are speculative entrepreneurs. No one explicitly asked them to make content, to market it, etc. They are in no way employees, this isn’t even close to being in a gray area. OnlyFans is simply a marketplace of content, like Etsy for porn. Your question is like asking: Why doesn’t the swap meet pay me hourly to show up and try to sell my junk?
