Aesthetics Wiki
- smoldesu 5y agoI wonder how the future generation(s) will identify themselves in an internet era? I appreciate the fact that people are documenting this stuff, but it's { cool | scary | interesting } to think about the effects it will have on the way we dress, behave or even socialize.
- paleotrope 5y agoWith link rot, I think everything is going to be lost eventually.
- SilverRed 5y agoFor sure. It seems that every time a company redesigns their site, all old links are dead. In a particularly frustrating case, a local store just killed off all of the order receipt links and their emails did not contain the order details. Archive.org does a good job at preserving things but they offer no discoverability so you can not search the archived web like you can the live web.
- Spivak 5y agoI don’t expect any grand effects because of this. They’re just giving *-core names to style archetypes. Things haven’t really collapsed with the existing labels like goth, punk, emo, scene, tomboy, high femme, alt, academic, lumberjack, butch, andro, vsco, athletic. The main benefit to these labels catching on is it makes style inspo much easier to find.
- vecplane 5y agoThe Fandom site layouts recently got a lot worse and harder to use. For example, search used to be an easily accessible text field - simple and quick to use. Now they all have that ugly Fandom bar on the left, with a search icon that opens a search modal overlay, which injects advertisements into your search results. Not good. I've been using the Escape from Tarkov wiki a lot (can't really play without it), and the Fandom wiki UI changes are not in the right direction.
- acherion 5y agoCompletely agree. I use the No Man's Sky fandom site as it is very comprehensive (and the No Man's Sky iOS app "Assistant for No Man's Sky" is just a ported Android app, complete with Android interface, which really grates against iOS IMO) and the Fandom site is terrible with search. So many times I try to tap the top result and I inadvertedly open up eBay instead. The irony that there is an Aesthetics wiki on the current iteration of Fandom is not lost on me.

- acherion 5y agoWith that logic, why aren't all iOS apps just ported Android ones?
- Hemospectrum 5y agoI don’t remember a time when it was good. Their strategy was always about scraping user content from other websites (game guides, etc.) and leveraging SEO hacks to siphon off traffic and show as many ads as possible. Rebranding from Wikia to “Fandom” is itself an example of such a hack.
- el_dev_hell 5y agoThat's a truly unbearable wiki layout. I can't be the only one seeing the irony of using an awful UI for a wiki about aesthetics? The default MediaWiki theme would have been a signifiant improvement.

- bradhe 5y agoWhat exactly am I looking at?
- Zababa 5y agoFunny to see that the first thing is something about Cruelty Squad. I suggest taking a look at it, it's a really fun game. It's been made with Godot too!
