I have run the HashBackup upgrade server for years on a $5/mo Linode VM, and also have a dirt-cheap testing VM on Vultr that has been very reliable. The main thing I don't like about DO is when I tried them years ago, they used a zillion different 3rd-party web services for their site, making it hard to use with NoScript.
