I can see all the arguments and concerns people have and the strong opposition from the tech community. What I’m not seeing enough of is a focus on the actual problem Apple is purporting to address (whatever your views may be on their implementation).
If anything I’m seeing some very worrying minimisation and dismissals of the problem of CP, child trafficking and abuse and other privacy and ethics related issues such as counter-terrorism.
What’s the privacy and ethically aware solution to these problems?

- mirkules 5y ago“Think of the Children” and “terrorism” are two of the most used excuses for overreach, usually reserved for governments, but apparently for some companies too now. Why is it Apple’s business to stop crime, regardless of severity or type? How does “solving crime” help them sell devices? The more conspiratorial-minded individuals might actually suspect some government collusion in this, because it makes no financial sense otherwise to do this. Nobody is dismissing CP (or terrorism). Simply put, it’s not Apple’s problem to solve.
