Why it’s time to stop saying “my work is my life”
- PaulHoule 5y agoI was reading Theodore reik’s book about ‘love and lust’ and it made it clear to me what I knew all along, which is that work and love are not foes but instead closely related. We went through some cultural event horizon some time between 1945 and 2000 where it was more clear people were motivated like that. Today if you tell people you were motivated to do a creative project because you wanted affection people are baffled; ‘normal’ people today play the influencer game so they can get free swag, then they get on tinder. But if you look at fiction as a window of the human soul or real life stories from not long ago the 21st century schizoid man seems sad.
