I use a bank of 3 32 inch monitors but I don’t turn my head. I just slide and pivot my chair around to face the thing I want to work on. This work well for me because I’m often involved in multiple long running tasks and having all relevant documents be open in one corner of one monitor with other projects in other places allows me to context switch when necessary with relatively ease.
- in3d 5y agoI have a similar layout with 3 30’’ 16:10 monitors (2560x1600 older Dells). I haven’t had any neck-related issues with this setup.
- imagine99 5y agoAre you aware of any modern alternatives to these old 30" 16:10 monitors? For me, these are the gold standard, the perfect size of monitor - but I wish they would create a modern version with slimmer or no bezels, as well as possibly updated display technologies and more energy efficiency.
- in3d 5y agoUnfortunately, I haven’t found a modern replacement and I was searching everywhere about a year ago. Somebody else in this thread just mentioned the new Huawei MateView 3:2 but it’s 28” and it doesn’t seem to be currently available in the U.S.
- devaler 5y agoA: How long have you been doing this? B: How old are you? Not that you have to answer these questions in public, they’re just illustrative of at least two factors that may affect your experience.
- in3d 5y agoMy first computer was a Commodore 64 and I’ve had this exact setup for around 9 years now.
- jstimpfle 5y agoVirtual workspaces could be the perfect fit for you. Unless you want to drive the displays with different computers.
- nerdponx 5y agoSomehow having it all laid out on 3 physical screens significantly reduces the mental overhead. Maybe it's some silly psychological thing, knowing that they're there in my peripheral vision.
- pastrami_panda 5y ago> Unless you want to drive the displays with different computers. At which point a simple KVM switch is perfect fit. I'm on a 34" ultra wide IPS and I'm probably getting something a few inches bigger next time with an even more extreme R-value and I think I'm set.
