Google founder gets New Zealand residency, raising questions
- hnskrall 5y agoSo what’s the story here? Countries grant citizenships for these large investments. It’s got it’s own Wikipedia page.
- a0-prw 5y agoIf you've got a LOT of money you can have whatever you want. Literally anything.

- mcntsh 5y agoInvestment visas are nothing unprecedented. Many people "buy in" to Europe this way too. Even the US has such a program. The more important question in my mind is "Why does Larry Page want to buy residence to New Zealand?". Usually those leveraging such programs are the wealthy from traditionally more unstable countries than the US, like Russian oligarchs. Is this a sign of rats leaving a sinking ship?
- jareklupinski 5y agoThe US is only a place to be if you're actively increasing your capital. For people who are done with their rat race... there's really no reason to stick around while everyone else around you is only obsessed with increasing their capital. I guess New Zealand is like South Florida, but for the uber-rich?
