Am I able to negotiate a later start date if unemployed?
Usually, I give 2-3 weeks after the offer since I have to transition out from my current role.
However, I’ve been unemployed for the last 8 months. Took 6 months to focus on my health issue and started the job search 2 months ago once I fully recovered.
I’d love to be able to take a break where I’m not job searching and just relax or go on a trip before I get back to work.
Is there a way I could negotiate for a start date thats 3-4 weeks out? I’m worried because I’m unemployed, so they expect me to start immediately.
For context, I’m a mid level product manager.

Congrats it only took you 2 months - you must be good or lucky or both. :) I'd think 4 weeks is tough. 3 weeks is tough. 2 weeks should be eminently doable (not sure what that means, so think 'doable'). i'd def been in this situation. assming you got burned out - you'll prob be fine a the new gig - assuming you let it sink in that you have to be more balanced in your drive. i'd try to feel it out. assuming verbal comes thru, ask the recruiter/hiring manager: "how soon would you like me to start? i'm anxious to start, but i was also considering visiting my elderly grandparents who helped raise me before i started. i can do it later, after i've started, but if the project doesn't seriously kick off until September, then maybe we'll be in alignment on timeline."
