- nomel 5y ago> and cooling via breeze This makes many assumption that do not fit very large parts of the inhabited earth.
- Overton-Window 5y agoWhy should those living within 35° of the equator have to subsidise those living in the naturally uninhabitable reaches beyond?
- effingwewt 5y agoNot everyone can choose where they live, or when/where to move. What's happened to sympathy/empathy these days?
- beardedwizard 5y agoAnother perspective: Because if you don't they will later be inclined to take it by force.
- nomel 5y agoWell you're talking about a few billion people here, and a large chunk of the worlds population. And, since you can't warm "by breeze", you now have the worlds population squished into two very small bands around the earth. Here's a neat "population vs latitude" graph: https://engaging-data.com/population-latitude-longitude/ https://engaging-data.com/population-latitude-longitude/
- dogma1138 5y agoSo you going to level down and rebuild entire cities? The building I live in in London was built in the mid 1800’s there are many others like it, Edwardian buildings aren’t much better not to mention the 50’s - 70’s council built blocks. Rebuilding buildings would also have a major carbon footprint not to mention cost.
- baq 5y agomoney is a social construct. as soon as externalities are properly priced in, rebuilding will be cheap. of course, this may never happen, since it'd be perceived by the establishment as political suicide - but they don't care, since they won't live long enough to witness the real suicide, which happens slowly, then all at once (when it's too late).
- lumberingjack 5y agoThe problem with that is in North America they used to build as much as they possibly wanted why because there were a ton of trees to cut down and build stuff with. That phase is over now we have to import wood. Redesigning stuff is not a good idea if you're talking about reconstruction. I always think about the fires of San Francisco completely decimated the whole city. They cut down the largest redwood trees the whole Forest of them to build all that and then it just caught on fire.
