Tha javits center was for overflow, not first priority.
Where else were the elderly supposed to go? This one i have no info on
- lordloki 5y agoThen you move non-infected folks out of hospitals or nursing homes onto the ship, then use the empty space for the covid patients. There were still ways to utilize the resources available in a much better and safer way.
- adolph 5y ago> The captain/navy didnt want to deal with the cleaning/disinfecting after the fact. That sounds weird, like they weren't going to clean up after non-COVID patients? Is there a cite on this claim?
- Cd00d 5y agoCovid patients were not allowed on board the ship. This was reported at the time. On top of its strict rules preventing people infected with the virus from coming on board, the Navy is also refusing to treat a host of other conditions. Guidelines disseminated to hospitals included a list of 49 medical conditions that would exclude a patient from admittance to the ship. Ambulances cannot take patients directly to the Comfort; they must first deliver patients to a city hospital for a lengthy evaluation — including a test for the virus — and then pick them up again for transport to the ship. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/02/nyregion/ny-coronavirus-usns-comfort.html https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/02/nyregion/ny-coronavirus-u...
- heavyset_go 5y agoThe ship's facilities were not meant for COVID patients, it was meant for patients who would go to a hospital if it wasn't full of COVID patients.
