Facing ‘dire water shortages,’ California bans Delta pumping
- themodelplumber 5y agoIt was weird to read that. The inequity of water supply situations in California is pretty strange. People who live near me in Mendocino County are claiming to have received letters from local government bodies saying that they don't need to conserve water. People like city council members have chimed in on Facebook discussions to note the same and they reference improved groundwater collection systems and other recent projects. (It's hot and dry here though, and there's a fire in town currently...) But I have spoken with people who live outside of California, who ask me what I'm drinking since there's no water where I live! And clearly, there are water problems to be sure--but they're somewhere else. In California.
- bsder 5y agoThat's because there isn't a consumer water shortage, by and large. The water shortage is because the agribusinesses keep pumping it like mad before the party stops. The only solution is to start shutting down the agribusinesses. But the agribusinesses will continue pumping everything dry to extract the last penny before it all collapses. Welcome to Easter Island ... err, the Central Valley.
