If you’re vaccinated, risk from the Delta variant is probably long-haul Covid

- BGthaOG 5y agoWould love to see more mention of naturally acquired antibodies / immunity, else (as in this article) the term "unvaccinated" is overloaded in my opinion. For example, are stats around naturally immunized folks different? I imagine so..
- mikewarot 5y agoLong Covid is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's like losing a decade of your life, in a few weeks. I'm constantly tired, and I get dizzy quickly if I talk a lot. Yet my pulse-ox meter says I'm doing ok, but my pulse is a bit quick. The last year I've been in limbo, I had co-workers who definitely had Covid-19, and I got sick, but it was before testing was widely available, so there's no documentation to make a case. I've been through cardiology and pulmonology, even having a probe stuffed into my heart to check things, and the best I got was "You're probably NOT likely to just fall over and die"... which was a vast improvement from when I first asked the question. Do everything you can to avoid long Covid, please!
- NonContro 5y agoIf you're working from home, buy a CO2 monitor, and ventilate whenever it exceeds 700ppm. Also consider getting a COVID antibody test.
- failwhaleshark 5y agoThat sucks. I do hope your symptoms improve. From what I understand, LC may actually be caused by destructive tissue damage. COVID, like Lyme disease or Hep C, seems like serious business, even if it doesn't make you immediately ill. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8146298/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8146298/ PS: Waves at Matt-erport Bell. :) I wonder what happened to his Stanford pool noodle koosh ball. :-D
- failwhaleshark 5y agoI think critical US retail and government buildings should require vaccinations (vaccination cards) and masks until community spread ceases: grocery stores, shopping malls, coffee shops, schools (everyone >12), pharmacies, hospitals, federal/state offices, post offices, and doctor offices. This way, it makes extremely inconvenient for crazy people and the lazy to not get it. The knock-on productivity, lowered quality of life, and healthcare costs of LC are likely into the hundreds of billions spread over decades. It's very difficult to count what's underreported and the aftereffects over many years that may not be properly attributed to LC.
- uslic001 5y agoI got my second vaccine shot the first week of January so it looks like I am at increased risk for getting the Delta variant compared to those who got the vaccine later this year. Bummer.
