I’m pretty sure AMD offers perf/watt that is in the ballpark of ARM chips, and I’m guessing Intel, if they ever get on a similar process node again, will be able to get close. None of that changes the need for accelerators though. Nvidia et al want to make the biggest chips they can, and at some point that means water cooling.
