Ask HN: Equivalent of IPython.embed in C/C++?

One of the best tricks I have for debugging is putting a whole embedded interpreter in the middle of an interesting location in my Python code. Is there a similar trick I can do with C/C++? Or is there a whole different strategy that is even better than that that I should be made aware of?
