has it occured to these people that it's possible to... like React? And use it for that reason? Same for webpack, typescript etc. There is no church of modern front-end development going around indoctrinating people on these (there seem to be some forces doing the opposite actually). Whether react, webpack, etc is efficient/neccessary is sometimes irellevant, if they happen to fit the mental model of some people and make them more productive. Same to any other pop language/frameworks that might be deemed inefficient: python, rails, PHP... You don't "need" to use them, but that's a silly thing to say.
