I don't know about the crappy dimmers, but I have been extremely impressed with my IKEA bulbs. The higher watt ones become hot and probably die early, but the 600lm ones flicker VERY little, have a good light spectrum (no cheating with colour spikes). On the things I have been able to measure (flicker, colour spectrum) they cost about 1/3 of lights with similar quality.
