What do you think about masturbation?
As a single man who is pretty socially isolated and has been for a long time. I struggle with sexual release. I find if I do masturbate then it greatly effects my state of mind in a negative way with regard to getting things done and living a meaningful, productive life. If I don't masterbate then I find myself distracted by my lack of sexual release. Ocassional sex with a wife or girlfriend would be the best solution but that is not something that is readily available right now. In the past I looked at a lot of porn on mainstream sites like porn hub but now in my 30s I seem to have grown out of it. Using in person sex workers has its own set of moral, health, legal and most important for me, financial negatives. Anyway I identify as schizoid personality disorder (wikipedia has a page). Basically an extreme introvert. But I am still human and have physical sexual needs that are not well met through masturbation.
I am wondering if there are similar nerdy loners and how they deal with it better than me?
I do not identify as incel at all. I think they are pathetic from what I have seen online.
So my question is does masturbation impair your productivity?
How do you deal with physical sexual release needs in a better way that has less of a negative impact on your life?
- throwawayboise 5y agoMasturbation and porn can be enjoyable but like anything if it's causing a problem or dominating your thinking to a distracting degree you might need to seek some mental health help. I may be infering something you didn't state but your phrasing that you "identify as a schizoid personality disorder" sounds like you self-diagnosed this. A qualified therapist can help you sort things out. You won't find it on Wikipedia.
- JohnFen 5y agoI don't know you, and this may be wildly off base. But I knew a guy who had a similar issue as what you're saying. In his case, the issue was that he had a need that isn't really sexual at heart (a need for companionship, and not even necessarily of a romantic bent). But he was trying to fill it though the endorphin release. That can't ever actually work, though, so can lead to depression and obsessive behavior. Again, I don't know you, but your post reminds me a bit of my friend. You mention that you have an existing psychological issue. This sounds like perhaps the sort of thing that could help guide any therapy you might be undergoing. I'd encourage you to bring it up with your doctor.
- navjack27 5y ago> does masturbation impair your productivity? Not really unless I'm taking a whole afternoon to update my local repository of porn and edging while I do it. > How do you deal with physical sexual release needs I fap... I dunno dude. Yeah when I had a girlfriend I was horny all the time. I still am. When I had a wife I was horny all the time. Love me some love making. Hate casual encounters because I get attached to people really really easily.
- simonblack 5y agoMasturbation will only impair your productivity if you're doing it at the time when you should be working. Masturbation should not have a negative impact on your life. If it does, you're doing it wrong. People who have problems with masturbation usually have a past life where they have been subjected to 'guilt trips' by manipulative people, mainly by people who have told them that "Sex is dirty".
