Sweden: Despite Variants, No Lockdowns, No Daily Covid Deaths – AIER
- codevark 5y agoAnd the AIER also says human-driven climate change is no big deal. Yah.
- svennek 5y agoWhile I agree with his statement that the first calculations where rather pessimistic, he forgets to mention, that number is MUCH MUCH higher per capita than their Scandinavian neighbors. - Sweden 14500ish dead out of 10M population - Denmark 2550ish dead out of 5,8M - Norway 800ish dead out of a pop of 5,4M - Finland 1000ish dead out of 5,5M citizen So 3x worse outcome than Denmark (per capita), 7ish-8ish x worse outcome than Finland and Norway. Also multiply the 14500ish by 32 (due to size difference) to get comparable to the US and you are around 465.000 dead which is roughly speaking 2/3rds of the US death rate..
- svennek 5y agoTo follow up, Denmark (where I live) locked down early and hard, but we have been cautiously been opening up again (just today another set of lockdownisque rules where trashed), and if every thing goes as planned we are back to fully open in 8 weeks..
- buerbuers 5y agoHe doesn't forget to mention it at all, it's in the article.
- landemva 5y agoSweden made the same mistake as New York state by putting known Covid19 carriers into nursing homes, which led to the logical outcome of infecting and killing the medically at-risk.
- Fjolsvith 5y agoSo you are saying that the death numbers in Sweden and New York were artificially higher than they should have been?
- HarryHirsch 5y agoSo far the incidence of Delta in Sweden is low, there's no big surprise about the observation. If Denmark is any guide we'll see more cases in the next few weeks, because the Delta variant has just arrived there. Once Delta is in Sweden, cases will go up there, too.
- IfOnlyYouKnew 5y agoThere really aren’t any “lockdowns” anywhere in Europe, as far as I can tell? So the headline is already somewhat misleading. This argument about Sweden has been among the more annoying ones over the last far-too-many months. I distinctly remember people here arguing that Sweden had reached herd immunity two weeks into the pandemic. And again, every few weeks after that. If the internet had a memory, we’d stop those people continuing to pollute the public sphere with such drivel. Alas, here we are, with people pointing to individual deaths, among the 200 million or so vaccinated, as proof of adverse effects (“that the government wants to use to kill all the free thinkers…’) Anyway… Sweden had far more deaths than neighboring countries, and have themselves said they’d follow a different strategy if they got to make the decision again. Some people online are still promoting ideas whose inventors no longer do. The also isn’t any evidence that it helped protect the Swedish economy, which faired decidedly average compared to the rest of the continent.
