IMHO the source of confusion comes from how the term Enterprise Architecture has been interpreted not as the “Architecture of the Enterprise” but as “Architecture of IT systems in an enterprise”. Of course it gets frustrating, when the part you are trying to architect is inseparably intertwined with what you can’t - the rest of the organization. I’m trying hard to assemble a theoretical basis around the former definition from the MIT Systems Architecture paradigm and have been teaching it like this for several years now with moderate success. But I’m yet to find a single source moving in the same direction. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places?
