Tech savvy people, what is a computer tip you are sure most haven't heard of?
- readonthegoapp 5y agoOn a mac, you can drag and app or tab or window to the side of your screen (left or right, until your mouse touches the actual side of your screen), and the app/tab/window will 'snap' into place.
- alpaca128 5y agoIsn't that a standard feature in all major systems since at least Windows Vista or 7? Although things like this show that a tiny bit of effort to explain features could go a long way. Every game explains the controls in the first minutes, on Windows you have to stumble upon an internet post like "10 secret Windows tricks you didn't know!". Microsoft could put tips like that in every update/setup loading screen instead of having Cortana blast through the speakers. That's also why Windows 8 was doomed to fail. They restructured the whole user interface to a point people have to search for the "shutdown" button, but not a single hint about how to use it.
- readonthegoapp 5y agoi'm not sure if it's standard on Windows, too. Or on ChromeOS. I still feel like it's too hard to get a simple split screen of the windows/tabs i want to see split - maybe i need to look it up again. having another monitor has helped.
- alpaca128 5y agoIt definitely exists at least since Windows 7. Windows 10 expanded it so that tiling a window to one half of the screen lets you fill the other half with another window with just one click. Linux desktops also have this for quite some time, usually also allowing tiling to a quarter of a screen instead of just left/right half.
