Collapse the distinction between user and programmer
- rektide 5y agoit's not just about the agency to do things either. whether systems are intelligible, whether we have means to understand them & their workings, is another key distinction. I wouldn't mind that the modern world runs in data centers if we could see those data centers, see what happens there. we don't need write privileges, execute privileges. but we should have read privileges to the computing itself happening on our behalf: we should be able to see. without being able to see g understand the environment, humankind faces existential peril of losing themselves. the built environment should mirror the natural environment: observable, learnable, analyzable, probeable, subjectable to instrumentation.
