24 Hours after the fire started it is still listed as "Not Yet Under Control" with 10 vehicles responding.
Media release from Local Fire Department: https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/firefighters-battle-large-battery-fire-near-geelong https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/firefighters-battle-large-batter...
- mlindner 5y agoYes it's a single battery pack burning and you need to keep it cool with larges amount of water for a long period to let it cool off so it doesn't restart.
- stirlo 5y agoThe media release I linked above actually mentions it spread to a second pack. But yes it’s not spreading to the others.
- mlindner 5y agoA second pack or a separate cell inside the same pack? These things are highly modular and even within a large pack there's multiple smaller packs that are also fire insulated against each other.
- stirlo 5y agoSeems pretty clear from this photo[0] it spread to a second pack that was in close proximity. A quote from the media release is "They found a 13-tonne lithium battery inside a shipping container was fully involved" which would exclude the possibility that it was a single pack within the container. This is also shown in the photos. [0]https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/Images/UserUploadedImages/301/105_16990_30Jul2021185221_3.jpg https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/Images/UserUploadedImages/301/10...
