How are the size of these fines determined?
- mhitza 5y ago> How much can an organization be fined for a GDPR violation? The GDPR allows the EU's Data Protection Authorities to issue fines of up to €20 million ($24.1 million) or 4% of annual global turnover (whichever is higher).
- eitland 5y agoImportantly however they'll often first contact the company to ask them to fix the problem first instead of going straight to fines.
- theshrike79 5y agoAnd the best part is that the fine is calculated according to the parent company, so you can't create a subsidiary to handle all the iffy GDPR stuff and have it work with 0 turnover. So if any of Google's properties F's up, the fine is calculated from Alphabet's annual turnover.
