A Nerd Cool Miscellanea
- DiggyJohnson 5y agoI love the word "Miscellanea". Thanks for sharing.
- dcminter 5y agoIf you like that word you might also enjoy "vade mecum" meaning a handbook from the Latin "go with me" A term I first encountered in the fictional "A murderer's vade mecum" in one of the Dorothy Sayers detective novels. https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/vade_mecum https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/vade_mecum
- Finger_Fudge 5y agoCan anybody see my comments? Does Hacker News shadow ban new accounts?
- justusthane 5y agoYour comment was marked dead (until I vouched for it). If a comment is dead, by default people can't see them unless they have "showdead" turned on in their preferences. Your first two comments are not dead, your three most recent are (were). I'm not sure why. You might email hn@ycombinator.com
- k__ 5y ago@Finger_Fudge I can see your comments, but they're marked [dead]
- whatshisface 5y ago>Casimir effect >using ‘free’ energy borrowed from nothing Vacuum energy pressure, like gravity, will bring the two plates together, but pulling them back apart will take energy (again, just like with gravity or even a spring), and so doesn't show much promise as a perpetual motion machine.
