I think the idea is sound (ha!) but the problems I read about are mostly implementation and process issues that people are blaming the tool for.

  The tool has fundamental flaws preventing its use as an authoritative source of evidence, and is instead being relied on to fabricate evidence to justify illegal searches.

    Well, it can never be authoritative - that’s not a rational expectation. It’s a monitoring and alerting tool.
