Actually I lived in the US for 5 years. My tax return was fairly simple - but TurboTax asked a lot more questions to maximize deductions and tax credits (which were not applicable to me)
We have made an "opinionated" UI where we show only the common deductions. If you want a not-so-common deduction, you can claim it, but its not part of the regular workflow.
