McDonald's RFID Drinking Cups
- tony-allan 5y agoBroken link?
- underseacables 5y agoThis is… Strange… Someone slapped an RF ID sticker on the bottom of McDonald’s cup. What happens if you peel it off? I find this to be dubious, just because it’s so blatant. McDonald’s has the ability to manufacture these inside of the paper. Can’t imagine someone applying these manually. Has anyone else seen this in the wild?
- uptown 5y agoAnother post showing the same: https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/dh3yma/mcdonalds_drink_has_an_rfid_tag_on_bottom_of_cup/ https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/dh3yma/m... - underseacables 5y agoThank you for these links, I thought it had to be some kind of spoof or art project, this is really… Strange.
- rasz 5y agoWhy relatively expensive RFID vs pretty much free QRCode printed on the bottom?
- atatatat 5y agoBecause then they have can the display under the counter glass label itself with your name so the bean guy can fuck off back to the beans instead of waiting on you to focus your eyes on your misspelled name on your cup.
- rasz 5y agoCan accomplish same thing with IR camera under smoked glass counter.
- jdsully 5y agoIt’s much cheaper to do a pilot project this way.
- octupus 5y agoIt probably checks for presence of RFID before dispensing or displaying the message. >McDonald’s has the ability to manufacture these inside of the paper. Probably but will they figure it out? And if they do, will they actually do something about it?
