Sure, it's stupid, but the cost is most definitively _NOT_ $5,000. If the hospital is saying it's charging 5,000 for it, then it's an example of "we'll put a huge number here, then bring it way down when it's time to pay". Which is also stupid. But once again, nobody is paying that amount. The two arguments "the system is stupid" and "the price is insane" are different arguments.
- 55555 5y agoSure, I get it. But I think this is one of those cases, like with identity theft, where you and I are just so used to the status quo that we can't accept how messed up the whole thing is. It feels normal, and we know how to work the system, so it's okay. If aliens landed they'd think we're really strange.
