Joe Biden is overseeing one of the largest cuts in legal immigration in history
- hitpointdrew 5y agoAnd no one will complain or make a big deal about because it isn’t Trump doing it. If it was Trump, ohhh boy, 24/7 media coverage on how Trump is the worst racist on the planet.
- themodelplumber 5y agoThe article places much of the blame on Trump and explains why; accordingly, complaints about Trump are continuing / will likely continue
- BizarroLand 5y agoExactly: While Biden will own this unwelcome distinction, former president Donald Trump staged this disaster last year by barring most immigrants sponsored by their family members from entering the United States. This caused 120,000 family green card slots to go unused.
- cyanydeez 5y agothe reality is all politics is affected by the far rights stance on immigration. until the usa reverse citizens united, bald faced gerry mandering and corporate ownership of the political landscape through citizens united and lobbying, no one is safe from the far right hate parade.
- hitpointdrew 5y agoAs this article proves, there is no “far right hate parade”, both parties are equal opportunity “haters”.
- krapp 5y agoIf both parties are equal opportunity haters, then that means there is a far right hate parade and a far right left parade, not that the far right hate parade doesn't exist because the far left one does, somehow. And until Joe Biden starts ranting about Mexican rapists jumping the border or having to send money to "shithole countries," I don't see an equivalence between the two. As the article states, the "cuts" are the result of the slow speed with which the Biden administration has been processing applications, a result of the extremely outdated immigration bureaucracy and of Trump suspending immigration last year[0]. One might blame the Biden Administration for complacency (I would,) but that's nothing compared to the malice of the previous administration. - coldtea 5y agoOr it's a democratic majority belief that "we don't want more immigration" and both parties try to cater to it (but also to cater to the need for cheapo working hands to squeeze value off and help thwart domestic labour rights, which mass low-skill immigration offers).
- krapp 5y agoI would say and, rather than or.

- MikeUt 5y agoLegal immigration to the US has been at around 1.1 million/year for the last 20 years [1]. What are we to make of the fact that after 4 years of a notoriously anti-immigrant presidency, "one of the largest cuts in legal immigration in history" is a temporary, barely 10% reduction? It seems like immigration stays high no matter who you vote for. [1] https://www.dhs.gov/immigration-statistics/yearbook/2019/table1 https://www.dhs.gov/immigration-statistics/yearbook/2019/tab...
- hitpointdrew 5y ago> 4 years of a notoriously anti-immigrant presidency All Biden has to do is approve more green cards. This 100% on Biden’s head, stop trying to pass Biden’s faults on the previous administration.
