There was one year where I got three raises to double my income. I came into that corporate employment as a design before I was involuntarily transferred to a developer role without a raise. A year later I was selected for a military deployment to Afghanistan, where I continued developing by starting a personal project. When I came back to my corporate employer I got a raise for being off the low end of the pay scale. A few months later I was promoted to senior which came with another raise. Shortly after that another group made me an offer and my current employer gave me a third raise to stay put.
