TSMC 2nm chip plans announced
- abinaya_rl 5y ago> It is expected to use 98,000 tons of water a day — roughly 50% of TSMC’s total daily water consumption in 2020 Is chip manufacturing machines use so much of water? is it used for cooling or what this has been used for? can someone explain?
- baybal2 5y ago1. Cooling towers 2. Everything else
- genericone 5y agoIt might be because of all the reverse-osmosis and other purifying processes that give you some ratio of ultra-pure-water:slightly-unpure-water, which gets even more unbalanced for the smaller node sizes.
- missedthecue 5y agoIt also makes me wonder why many of the US chip plant plans are in Arizona.
- throwawaysea 5y agoSo what are the actual benefits? I’ve seen comments here previously claiming that the nm numbers have no bearing on physical reality and are more of a marketing gimmick. If that’s the case what can we expect with 2nm?
